Summary

My goal is to empower you to be better. To unleash the possibilities of great things that I believe are just underneath the surface. No matter where you are right now you can achieve greater things. With perseverance and hard work nothing is impossible. So fire up Blender, grab some caffein, and work along side me as we ride the orange wave together. It's time to get unleashed! - Brandon Hix | blenderunleashed.com

Education

John Brown University

Digital Media Arts / Concentration in Computer Animation

Aug 2005 - May 2009

College was important because it's where the world of 3d graphics was really opened up for me. I already had a few years of experience with Blender before starting school, but the great thing about college was that it allowed me to cross train my skills. I started learning Maya and ZBrush as well as all of the Adobe apps. I was also pushed by my professors to keep reaching higher and setting bigger goals for myself. It really shaped who I would become later in my career.

Work Experience

Owner | Founder

Indie Stock LLC

Jan 2015 - Current | Tulsa, OK

I actually incorporated Indie Stock back in 2010 when I first had the idea to go online and sell 3d assets as a business I could own from home. Things didn't exactly work out as planned and I had to learn a lot before I was able to quit my day job and tackle the challenge of running a company full time from home, but I'm so glad that I made the decision to do it. In late January 2015 I quit my day job to try to get my business off the ground and never looked back. Through some initial success teaching on sites like Udemy I've been able to bootstrap my business from the ground up. To say that things have been hard is a huge understatement; however, it's also been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in my life.

Blender Foundation Certified Trainer (BFCT) | Blogger | Tutor

BlenderUnleashed.com

May 2016 - Current | Tulsa, OK

Owning your own business can be very liberating, but also very challenging. After about a year of just creating courses for distribution online through sites like Udemy I decided early in 2016 that it was time for a change in direction. My original site indie-stock.com hadn't taken off as I had anticipated and I was faced with the decision to turn around and go find another job to pay the bills or reinvent my business and take things in a new direction. BlenderUnleashed.com is my answer to what my original goal for Indie Stock was supposed to accomplish. I launched the blog in June 2016 and have seen a big difference in the reception by the community. Then in July of 2016 I received my certification from the Blender Institute as an official trainer for the Blender software. I am so humbled and honored to be one of 40 (currently) other instructors worldwide who will carry the torch into the future for Blender because it has made such an impact on my professional and personal life.

Production Artist

Selco Time Corp.

Jun 2011 - Jan 2015 | Tulsa, OK

My time at Selco taught me a lot about other aspects of the industry such as manufacturing and design. I worked as an artist designing and converting graphics for printing on custom designed watches. I also helped create custom tooling for CNC milling using CAM software. The thing that hit home quickly was just how precise everything has to be when you're working on parts that are so small. So I learned a lot about paying attention to all the details involved in a project and how to up my skills as a graphic designer. This position really pushed me to explore other areas of my creativity and I was fortunate to meet a lot of fun and interesting people along the way.

Animator

Steelehouse Productions

Jun 2009 - Jan 2011 | Tulsa, OK

My first job out of school was working for a local production company in my home town. I was lucky to be able to intern at Steelehouse throughout school and had a friend who introduced me to the business. My time at Steelehouse is something that I will always remember and always cherish. I learned more in a year and half working as a production animator than I could have learned in three years on my own. The greatest part about working at the company was the comradery with everyone on the team. And working for big name IPs like the G.I. Joe franchise taught me a lot about what it takes to be a team player and how life is like working in the industry.
